1 st Wife--no sons 1527 Wants a divorce 1533 2 nd Wife 1536--beheaded 1537-Finally gets a son! She dies in child birth 1542 Beheaded 1540 Divorces 4 th Wife Outlives Henry!

Henry VIII takes over the Church 1529 – 1534: Parliament makes King head of England’s Church –Divorce is legalized, Pope loses power –Seizes church property (church owned 20% of land in England) Each of his 3 children would rule under religious turmoil Elizabeth I (Henry’s 3 rd child) - creates the Anglican Church
