Pre-AP Course Description  Pre-AP classes utilize Laying the Foundation (LTF) curricula to infuse greater rigor into Math, Science and English classes.  The LTF curricula are aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards (CCRS)  These courses establish a clear pipeline for college bound students to succeed in rigorous coursework.  They provide a strong foundation for future Pre-AP and AP courses.  The numeric grade is weighted differently; two points are added to each semester average.  Credited courses such as Algebra I will be awarded 0.5. For example A=4.5, B=3.5, C=2.5 and D=1.5  Students attending Pre-AP courses are better prepared due to the rigor of the material. For example, if a student made B’s and C’s and used to making A’s and B’s, they are still getting good academic foundation.

Pre-AP English 7  A reading list will be distributed at the end of the school year to students who have requested Pre-AP English 7.  Students are required to select 3 books and read them during the summer.  Students will be tested in September on the books that were read.  Check out Mrs. Lumpkin’s webpage for the summer reading list.

Pre-AP Math  A Math Packet covering basic pre- requisite skills will be distributed at the end of the school year to students who have requested Pre-AP Math.  Students are required to submit the completed packet on the first day of school.  Students will be tested at the beginning of school on the material covered in the packet. This test will count 100 points and be the first test grade of the quarter.

12. Pre-AP Math Students are required to have:  The ability to do independent learning.  The ambition to succeed in a rigorous classroom environment. Note: Access to web based components outside of school would be helpful.

Process Using Pre-AP Guidelines  Start a list in each Pre-AP Math, English & Science based on registration form requests  Look up students’ scores: ASPIRE, Global Scholar and Average grade in the subject requested.  Use Advisement sheet to share scores with the students and recommend best placement.  Approve or Disagree with placement  Student/Parent Signatures of commitment  Change of mind during the summer e-mail Mrs. Malek  Schedule changes can be made before Q1 Midterm but preferably before August.

15. Global Scholar Assessments  Students are assessed during : FALL, WINTER, & SPRING  Testing scores are used for progress monitoring purpose. Using GS “Performance Indicators” (Quartile 1, 2, 3 & 4) Students are placed in remedial reading or math classes. Results show standards attained or not attained which guide instructional planning.  GS Standards are aligned with CCRS

16. Postsecondary/Dual Enrollment Requirements:  Students in grade 10, 11, or 12 can enroll.  GPA 3.0 or higher  Written approval from student’s principal and superintendent.  Students must meet requirements of the postsecondary institution for admission under that institution’s dual enrollment credit program.  Students shall pay normal tuition as required by the postsecondary institution.
