People have been playing ball-and-stick games for hundreds of years. Golf is one such game, involving( 牽涉 ) people hitting little white balls into slightly( 稍微地 ) bigger holes far, far away.
3
Golf was first referenced( 提到 ) in a Scottish( 蘇格蘭的 ) document( 文件 ) in 1457.
4
What makes the document quite interesting, though, is that it was written to actually ban( 禁止 ) people from playing golf!
5
The reason for this is that Scotland was at war with England at the time. The King, James Ⅱ, was worried that his soldiers were playing too much golf and not training enough.
6
Almost 50 years later, the Scots and the English stopped fighting. The new Scottish king, James Ⅳ, was a huge fan of gold.
7
He exported( 傳播 ) the game to England, where its popularity really took off( 起飛 ).
8
England’s King Charles Ⅰ also became a fan, and was known for finishing his rounds( 場 ) of golf before dealing with any big problems!
