3 Workplace Writing Must Have Clarity Direct Grammatically Correct Easy to Read

4 Sentences vs. Fragments Sentences contain both a subject and a verb. Fragments do not contain both a subject and a verb.

5 Nouns Proper Nouns – Specific people, places, & things Plural Nouns – They represent more than one Possessive – Shows ownership

6 Verbs Linking Verbs – To Be (6 forms) Helping Verbs – Additional verb that helps show action or time Irregular Verbs – Don’t follow typical patterns

7 Punctuation Periods –At the end of a sentence –After initials –Decimal points in numbers Exclamation Points –To show surprise –To show strong feeling

8 Spelling Proofread your writing Look words up in a dictionary Create an acrostic (example below) Geography George’s eldest, oldest girl rode a pig home yesterday

9 Organization Who, What, When, Where, Why, & How Web Diagram Statements and Requests –Do you want to give information out or request that an action be taken?
