5
Problem Worry of child getting lost Other devices are not practical/affordable Buddy Tag Freedom Watch Approximately 800,000 children are reported missing every year in the US. [1] [2] [3]
6
Solution A wearable system that: Alerts a parent when their child has wandered outside the parent’s proximity Points the parent toward their child Gives the parent an approximate distance to the child Never Wander Band – Dual System (two bands)
7
High Level Overview
8
Constraints
9
Constraint Description Size Specifications Parent Band must not exceed dimensions of 2.5”x 2”x 0.8”(LxWxH). Child Band must not exceed dimensions of 2”x 1.5”x 0.6”(LxWxH). Device Range and Accuracy The Parent Band must be able to communicate with the Child Band at a minimum range of 100 meters, line of sight. It must also be accurate in tracking within 5 meters of child’s location. Technical Constraints
10
ConstraintDescription Battery LifeThe battery life of each device must be at least four hours. User Customizability User will set the safe range their child needs to be in. The user has the option of 20, 30, 40, and 50 meters. Display AbilityThe Parent Band must point in the direction of the Child Band and give the distance to the Child Band.
11
Practical Constraints TypeDescription Economic The device must be competitive The Never Wander Band System must cost less than $150 for the customer. Competitor’s, Buddy tag and Freedom Watch, cost range from $40 to $600.
12
Practical Constraints TypeDescription Manufacturability Product must be wearable and comfortable for both users User friendly interface Fashioned in the way of a wristwatch and wristband Discrete, lightweight, and modern
13
Progress
14
New Code Architecture ● No longer waits for packets of the UART, only try to load a new packet when one is ready ● Implemented more error conditions checks and error displays ● Added software timers for packet timeouts
