Bone observations Materials –Various cow bones –Dissection tray –Forceps –Probe –Ruler –Magnifying glass

Bone Procedures THIS WILL BE DONE FOR 2 BONES Use the forceps to manipulate the bone to help see 3 views and create a large drawing of each view –Small end –Large end –Side view 1.In each view –Use your book to identify the layers of bone in your drawing 2.For each bone –Width of bone in millimeters –Width of marrow –Complete description of marrow –Identify shape of bone

Bone Questions 1.If you compare a boiled bone and an unboiled bone, which would be stronger? Why? 2.What area of the bone is the thickest? Why?

Joints and pain Materials –A partner –Their joints

Bone Procedure 1.Create a table and identify 5 joints on the body –Identify the proper name of the joint –Draw a rough sketch –Location/Description of pull –Location/Description of pain 2.Slowly pull the joint in the opposite direction and stop to the point where it feels comfortable –Ask your partner to describe the location of the pull 3.Slowly pull the joint further until the partner feels pain –Ask your partner to describe the location of the pain

Bone Questions 1.Which joints experienced the most acute pain? 2.When pulling the joint, does pain occur at the joint or in a different location? Why or why not? 3.Why do some joints hurt more than other joints when you exert pressure?
