Back to the issue of regional university libraries

QULOC Staffing Issues Working Party establishes webpage Staffing in regional universities http://quloc.wikispaces.com/SIWP+Working+Regionally +Testimonials Tell us your stories about working in regional Australian universities.

Talks about new graduates and regional libraries separately, rarely together The literature

What is relevant in the literature Franks, R. (2012). Grey Matter: the ageing librarian workforce, with a focus on public and academic libraries in Australia and the United States. APLIS, 25(3), 104-110. Larrivee, A. (2014). Exploring the Stressors of New Librarians. Public Services Quarterly, 10(1), 1-10. doi: 10.1080/15228959.2014.875766

Questions Is going regional not possible due to city-based commitments? Is it because regional Australia doesn’t have equal access to services that the cities do? Do we lack in things to do outside of work? Is it lifestyle choice or the desire to build a career in a city?

In 5 years since graduation my trajectory has taken me from a grand old university in the city to a small regional Australian university. Even my views from home have changed. Brisbane, Queensland. Photo by Courtney E. Moran, 2011 Rosemount, Queensland. Photo by Courtney E. Moran, 2011
