KEY DEFINITIONS Freeze Panes: A frozen row or column that will stay visible on the screen no matter where you scroll on the worksheet. A common application is to freeze row and column titles on large worksheets. Hide/Unhide: Hiding a row or column removes the information from view. However, the information is not deleted, and can be viewed by unhiding. Paste Formatting: This paste option applies the formatting from copied cells to destination cells.
6
KEY DEFINITIONS (CONTINUED) Paste Values: This paste option enters the values of the copied cells. It does not copy formulas or source formatting. Transpose: This paste option switches the rows and columns of the copied cells.

IN-CLASS PRACTICE Do Challenge Lab 3.3.5 and aim for the best possible time. The lab can be attempted multiple times, with the task set changing each time. Let me know if you need help on a task.
8
CLASS DISCUSSION Why is it important to understand different paste options? What problems could you run into when using a large worksheet? How can you prevent these problems? When is it appropriate to delete an entire row or column, as opposed to deleting data in the row or column?
9
CLASS ACTIVITIES Open a large spreadsheet. Have the class race to find specific information in the table (e.g., find the year-to-date exports for Micronesia). Experiment with split windows, which are not simulated in the labs. How are they different from Freeze Panes? Right-click a cell and select Delete. How is this different from selecting a cell and pressing Delete on the keyboard?
10
SUMMARY By default, Excel pastes formulas and formatting. This can be changed using paste options. Freeze panes keep row and column headings visible on the screen when working with large data sets. Rows and columns can be hidden from view, while keeping their content intact for future use.
