2 AIG Services Information sessions provided for parents and students at Open House and Curriculum Fair Differentiated Education Plan completed for all AIG students prior to registration (student and counselor meet) AIG webpage with information and resources located on guidance website Classroom visits to promote special opportunities available to AIG students

3 Tips for AIG Students Start a rigorous schedule first semester freshman year. College preparation starts the first day of high school, so it is important to challenge yourself. If possible, take world language in 10 th or 11 th grade in order to avoid taking up elective space during the senior year that could be filled by honors, CCP, or AP classes. If you plan to take levels III/IV of language, start in 9 th grade. It is not necessary to double up on math courses if you do not plan to take AP Calculus AB/BC. It is not necessary to double up on science courses if you do not plan to take AP Biology or AP Chemistry

4 Graduation Requirements English I, II, III, IV Math I, II, III, and advanced level math course Earth/Environmental Science, Biology, a Physical Science World History, Civics and Economics, American History I, American History II Health and PE 2 required electives (Arts education, CTE, or World Languages) 10 additional electives **2 units of World Language are required for 4 year colleges in North Carolina; some competitive colleges prefer 3**

5 9 th Grade Suggested Academic Courses Earth Environmental Science honors Biology honors (if planning to pursue AP science courses or college major in science; preference is given to 10 th graders if course is full) Math II honors and Math III honors (if planning to pursue AP Calculus) AP World History or World History honors English I honors Health and PE

6 10 th Grade Suggested Academic Courses Biology honors Chemistry honors (if planning to pursue AP science courses or college major in science) Pre-Calculus honors/Calculus honors (if planning to pursue AP Calculus) English II honors Civics and Economics honors/AP Government World Language (must have two for four year colleges)

7 11 th Grade Suggested Academic Courses Physics Honors Biology II honors and AP Biology Chemistry II honors and AP Chemistry AP Calculus AB/BC English III honors or AP Language American History I honors and AP US History World Language (must have two for four year colleges)

8 12 th Grade Suggested Academic Courses Biology II honors and AP Biology Chemistry II honors and AP Chemistry AP Statistics English IV honors or AP Literature AP European History Career and College Promise courses World Language

9 Special Opportunities Summer Ventures- A 5 week residential program located on one of five UNC system campuses that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. 10 th and 11 th graders may apply during the fall semester. Governor’s School- A 6 week residential summer program located at Meredith or Salem Colleges. 10 th graders may apply for performing arts disciplines. 11 th graders may apply for performing arts, Social Science, English, Math, Science, and World Language. Students must score in the 92 nd percentile or higher on an EOC to be eligible to apply. North Carolina School of Science and Math- A residential high school located in Durham, North Carolina. 10 Testing PSAT/NMSQT- Juniors can qualify for recognition as a National Merit Scholar by taking the PSAT in the fall semester. National Merit awards are given typically to students with scores in the top 5% of the nation. 9 th and 10 th grade AIG students are encouraged to participate for practice. SAT- Given in October and March at ELHS, offered at other Lincoln County and surrounding High Schools throughout the school year. ACT PLAN- Given to 10 th graders in order to prepare for the ACT, which they will take the following year. ACT- Given in March to all juniors at ELHS. This is a free college entrance exam and is required by the state.

11 Dates to Remember Registration Letter to Parents- February 26, 2016 Online Registration Window- February 26-March 6 Individual Student Registration (during the school day) Rising 12 th grade- March 7-8 Rising 10 th grade- March 10-11 Rising 9 th grade- March 14 and 16 Rising 11 th grade- March 17-18 Make ups- March 21-23 ACT Testing- March 1, 2016 (all 11 th graders are required to participate, test will be given during the school day at ELHS) National College Fair- March 20, 2016/12pm-4pm/Charlotte Convention Center
