Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. (Colossians 2:20-23)

Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. (Colossians 2:20-23)

What will a person learn about worship?

5 Acts of Worship Singing Eph. 5:19 Col. 3:16 Prayer 1 Thess. 5:17 1 Tim. 2:8 Preaching Acts 2:42 2 Tim. 4:1-4 Giving 1 Cor. 16:1-2 2 Cor. 9:6-7 Lord’s Supper Acts 20:7 1 Cor. 11:23-28

Why do we focus on the HOW of worship rather than the FUNCTION of worship?

Jesus said “Go to them” but we say “Come to us.” GoCome

Our status in Christ… Rooted in Christ Brought to fullness in Christ Raised with Christ in baptism Made alive in Christ

Through God’s action we received spiritual fulfillment not with laws and rules to follow (to be judged against) but in and through Christ.

Human traditions and rules… impose a false spirituality on you judge you by telling you how you must worship God because they are not focused on Christ

True worship emphasizes the fullness you have in Christ, not human tradition.

Some people focus on rules and laws and passive Christianity. The New Testament Christians did not sit by passively but lived out the fullness of Christ within them.

True worship is based in action, not passivitation. (Acts 2:42-47)

The early Christians were… Active Growing Together Devoted Filled with awe Sharing possessions

True worship is sacrificial living. (Romans 12:1-2)

In sacrificial living… You please God You learn God’s will You give God the worship desires

Is your worship true, or focused on human traditions and rules?
