The Napoleonic Code Laws could only be enforced if they were published. Emphasized control of men over their wives and children Forbade labor unions and favored employers Forbade privileges of birth and emphasized merit in hiring Abolished crimes based solely on religion

Concordat of 1801 Both refractory AND constitutional clergy had to resign The state nominates bishops and pays them while the church can dismiss them. The clergy had to swear an oath of allegiance to the state. The church gave up claims to confiscated lands.

The Congress of Vienna The Treaty of Chaumont reinstated the Bourbons and returned France to 1792 borders. Goal was to keep any 1 state from dominating Created buffer states to keep France in check Rejected republican and democratic principles
