Uncited publications drag down your ‘average cites per paper’ metric Aim for a cite-worthy article in a quality peer reviewed journal In some disciplines, a peer reviewed conference publication is equivalent to a peer reviewed journal article – but in others disciplines it is better to focus on journals (talk to your supervisor or CI)

Are the ‘Results and Discussions’ sections addressing the main points? Do they provide clear conclusions? Are the paragraphs logically structured and connected by smooth transitions? Do they start with generalities and move towards specifics? Do they only contain one idea/theme per paragraph?

Is the manuscript concise and overall length appropriate? Is there any redundant material that could be omitted? Is there any overlap between the different sections?
