Urbanization Urbanization refers to the concentration of people in towns and cities. C.B. Mamoria, “It is a process by which the urban values get diffused, behaviour patterns are transformed and movement from villages to cities occur.” The Urbanization or unprecedented growth of cities stands out as one of the greatest developments of recent one hundred years.

Density of Population Density is also a major factor in the study of population. In the Indian context, density is defined as the number of persons living per square kilometer. In India the density of population in 1901 was only 77 persons per square kilometer. After 100 years density of population was 324 from 77 means there was an increase of 247 persons In 2011 density in India was 382 persons. In decade of 2001 to 2011 there is a highest increase in density of population – increase of 58 persons.

Sex Ratio Sex ratio is one of the characteristics of the population. The Sex ratio is defined as the number of females per thousand males. In most parts of India Sex ratio is less than thousand females per thousand males. Sex ratio in India according to census 2011 is 940. In India highest sex ratio is in the state of kerla- 1084 Lowest Sex Ratio in India is in Haryana - 879

In comparison to India the Sex Ratio of Punjab is less. Both in Rural & Urban parts of Punjab Sex ratio has increased. Sex ratio in Urban part is comparatively low than Rural Part of Punjab.
