We were significantly above the mean on the question about student relationships with administrative personnel and offices. Relationships with other students and with faculty were both near the mean.

The typical IVCC full time instructor reported spending 13-16 hours teaching students in class. Some reported as little as 5-8 hours while others reported as many as 21-30.

Although the most common answer was 1-4 hours per week, the median response was 5-8 hours per week spent grading papers. And yes, over 5% reported spending 21- 30 hours per week grading papers. (Way to go – English!)

Although reflecting on one’s teaching is important, 61% said they spend 1-4 hours reflecting and working on ways to improve their teaching. Fortunately no one said 0 hours/week.

The most common answer was 20-29% of class time was used for teacher led discussion (30% of faculty responses). This was followed by 10-19% and 1-9% each (approximately 20% of faculty responses each).

The most common response for adjunct faculty was they teach 4-6 hrs. per year (30%), followed by 7-9 hrs. per year (23%). Approximately 10% said they teach over 21 hrs. per year, while another 10% said they teach 1-3 hrs. per year.

The debate continues as 40% chose instructor and 60% chose professor. Adjuncts overwhelmingly said they were instructors (over other options such as professors and lecturers).

10-19 years college teaching experience was the most common amongst the full time IVCC faculty with 46%. With 23% each, were 10-19 years and 30- 39 years college teaching experience.
