1 Google Docs An introduction to Google Docs

2 Session Objectives Participants will become familiar with the various applications available within Google Docs. Participants will create and share a Google Docs item within their teams. This weeks Team Facilitator will post the Google Doc link to the course wikipage.

3 This is the same as a Gmail account. If you do not already have one, please create an account for this weeks activity. Do You Have a Google Account?

4 What is Google Docs? Create basic documents that can be created and saved within your Google account. Upload previously created Microsoft Office documents into your Google account. Share documents with others to view or even edit.

5 If you know Microsoft Office… Microsoft Office Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft Power Point Google Docs Equivalent Documents Spreadsheets Presentations

6 Documents This application is very similar to Microsoft Word. Gives users the ability to create and edit basic text documents.

7 Spreadsheets This application is very similar to Microsoft Excel. Gives users the ability to create and edit basic spreadsheets that include formulas and charts.

8 Presentations This application is very similar to Microsoft Power Point. Gives users the ability to create and edit slide show presentations.

9 How to share your doc: The following slides describe how to share a Google Doc with other collaborators. There specific directions for the Team Facilitator who will be posting team documents.

10 Open the Google document that you intend to share with collaborators.

11 Go to “Share” which can be found in the top right corner of the screen and choose “Sharing settings…”.

12 Click “Change”

13 Click the “Anyone with the link” option.

14 Click the box next to “Allow anyone to edit (no sign-in required)” and click “Save”

15 Highlight the link at the top of the window and paste that link to the course wiki next to your teams name.

16 This Weeks Activity Work with your team to create a “Document” within Google Docs. Each team member should make a contribution to the document. *see the additional slides for more information about the document This weeks Team Facilitator should post the link to the document to the course wiki.

17 What should the document include? Each member should contribute the following: Name How much time they will use Brief 1 or 2 sentence summary of what you are considering for your final presentation. Your team will have approximately 10 minutes to share. FINAL PRESENTATIONS WILL REQUIRE A 10-15 MINUTE TEAM PRESENTATION DESCRIBING HOW YOU’VE USED ONE OR MORE OF THE TOOLS EXPLORED IN THIS COURSE. BE AS CREATIVE AS YOU LIKE!
