Foreshadowing Occurs when a writer gives the reader a hint, or shadow, of what will happen later in the story This helps create suspense in a story The feeling of uncertainty that keeps your interest in the story is suspense

Allusion allusion (a-LOO-zhuhn): a reference in a literary work to a person, place, or thing in history or another work of literature. Allusions are often indirect or brief references to well-known characters or events
