SEABED ID

Seabed ID Basics  Bottom Roughness:  E1 = f(T1,T2)  Comparison of the length of time of the returns between the 1st and 2nd echo.  The rougher the bottom, the longer the 2nd return when compared to the 1st.  Bottom Hardness:  E2 = f(V1,V2)  Comparison of the volume of acoustic energy returned between 1st and 2nd echo.  The softer the bottom, the lesser the acoustic energy is measured on the 2nd return. NOTE: RoxAnn System requires that the Echosounder is set to a minimum Pulse Length of 600 microseconds, in order to properly calibrate and receive valid data.

Seabed Identification XML (SIX)  Different bottom and vegetation types exhibit different Roughness (E1) and Hardness (E2) properties. Sand Mud Clay Gravel Rock Sea Grass Sea Oats  SEABED STATISTICS allows you to specify a range of E1 and E2 values that determines the bottom classifications.  This information is stored in a *.SIX file.  The surveyor needs to ‘ground truth’ the data by taking bottom samples and logging the E1 and E2 values over each bottom type. The raw data files can be read into SEABED STATISTICS to assist in the generation of the *.SIX file. Screen from SEABED STATISTICS

SEABED ID in SURVEY  Seabed Driver Window.  SeabedID.DLL  Roxann  Echoplus  Displays the real time updates of the E1 and E2 values.  The matrix displayed in the Area Map is being painted using the Seabed ID (SIX) colors.

Seabed ID Display in HYPACK Seabed ID Display in HYPACK ®  Option 1: Color code matrix file with Seabed ID classifications.  Option 2: Color code soundings (Edited All Format) with Seabed ID classifications.  All soundings over mud are red.  All soundings over clay are green.  Etc.

Seabed ID Driver in SURVEY: No Identification Square

Making a Seabed ID Square SEABED ID Program  Ground truthing. Take a bottom sample. Interesting?  Yes: Log to a RAW data file for one minute. Note the material type.  Finished ground truthing: Load each file into SEABED ID and create a polygon that surrounds each material type.

Seabed ID Driver in SURVEY with an Identification Square (*.SIX)

SEABED MAPPER Program Re-Mapping Data Already Collected  Using the E1,E2 records of the input data file, it determines a new Seabed ID classification based on the new Seabed ID Square (*.SIX).  Saves updates to new data files. SEABED MAPPER Program RAW or EDIT Data Files Seabed ID Square New RAW or EDIT Data Files with Updated ID
