2. In this training module we will look at the following piece of Deck Machinery: Aft Capstan We will also take a look at how this unit operates, the location of it’s HPU (where applicable), and other information important to know about this piece of equipment. Aft. Capstan

4. The Aft Capstan is for mooring and line handling. Vertically oriented, hydraulically operated: Coastal Marine Equipment C4-0-43-21 ► 5000 lbs of line pull at 60 feet per minute ► Hydraulic requirements- 2,000 PSI @ 16 GPM Aft. Capstan

5. Aft Capstan HPU: Located in Aft Hold Coastal Marine Equipment 20 HPU 480 VAC, 3 phase, 20 HP motor 2,000 PSI @ 16 GPM Local reset and power on/off Breaker on Main Switchboard

6. Aft. Capstan HPU Normally turned On/Off from Aft Wheelhouse Console. This ensures wheelhouse watch is aware Aft Capstan is going to be put into operation.

7. Aft. Capstan Directional Controls For Heave/Veer Note: Don’t stand in direction of line pull! Don’t be “this guy.” If line snaps, it could come straight back at him!
