Purpose of Program integration of instructional technology in classrooms and library media centers provide sustained professional development to increase the skills of teachers in the use of instructional technology, in order to help students attain higher levels of performance in the New York State Learning Standards. Use researched based programs to increase student achievement 3

Goals Improve student academic performance – Meeting NYS Learning Standards – Focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Increase use of instructional technology in classroom and/or library media center Enhance collaborative projects among classrooms and library media center 4

Examples of Learning Technologies Information delivery systems or services used to provide distance learning – Such are: Moodle/Blackboard Online Learning – Apex Learning, iNacol, Compass Learning Adaptive Curriculum SchoolKit InfoSource 5

Examples of Learning Technologies Interactive telecommunications, including equipment and services; – Such as: Safari Montage Polycom /Tandberg Elluminate /Adobe Connect /Webex 6

Examples of Learning Technologies Computer technology integrated into classroom or school library media center instruction; – Such as: Laptop carts Desktops Projectors/Interactive whiteboards Student response systems Library Automation 7

Examples of Learning Technologies Multimedia equipment and data storage – Such as: Digital cameras/video cameras iPod/iTouch Kindle Server Hard drives 8

Examples of Learning Technologies Education related materials, services and software – Such as: software and professional development Robotics Probes, Calculators, Microscopes Kindles Video Authoring/ Editing Geometer Sketchpad CAD 9

Grant Recipients Must: Provide on-going professional development – integration of technologies – integration curricula and instruction – create new learning environments 10

Maximum Grant Awards Info Amount: $50,000 per year. Duration: Three years – November 1, 2009 through June 30, 2012 – First year: November 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010 Budget for first year must be submitted. No rollover of funds allowed. 11

Funding The NYC allocation for this initiative is $1,785,000.00 $1,785,000/50,000= 35.7 possible awards Successful applications may be funded for three years at a maximum allocation of $50,000 per year 12

Who is Eligible? Public school districts and BOCES – Must include SINI or SURR school building – Must include non-public school building Charters, Community Based Organizations (CBO) are NOT eligible. 13

Number of Applications Eligible applicants can apply for more than one grant. – Separate application is needed for each $50,000 – Must include a different focus and/or different schools – Each application must include SINI or SURR school 14

1) Need for Project Clear statement of student needs in relation to achievement of the NYS Learning Standards. Instructional technology needed to support student achievement. Steps taken to assess these needs for public school and non-public schools. – Ex: State Assessments, ARIS, NYS Report Card, Periodic Assessment, Survey 19

2) Objectives List clear measureable goals for the proposed 3 year project. Link goals to standards, process and content strands, key ideas and performance indicators Activities that are based on relevant research, models or best practices. Describe STEM related project in detail. Describe plan to collaborate among classrooms/library. 20

Example of Possible Project Testing the pH in the water – Need probes to measure acidity – Create graphs in Excel to show data – Create podcasts to record findings – Create video/documentary of experiment – Create a web environment using a wiki or blog to publish findings. 21

Example of Possible Project Shared experiments between two schools – Video conferencing/Skype – Collaborating using google docs, Wikispaces – Proscopes for investigations – Probes and sensors – Blog environment for sharing and comments 22

3) Project Activities List the activities, methods or strategies that will be conducted to achieve stated objectives. Include timeline for three year program Show how program will include ongoing, sustained instructional technology. Indicate instructional technology use to improve student achievement (classroom/library) 23

4) Collaborative Planning Describe process followed for non-public consultation. List the schools contacted. Describe how non-public school participated in the planning process. Describe how non-public school will be full partners in PD and equipment. Include # of teachers and students to show equitable participation. 24

5) Professional Development Describe how PD will help technology integration and sustainability. Include peer review process, mentoring or peer demonstration in PD.
