WORLD BOOK DAY 3rd March 2016 ‘The Big Read’ On 3rd of March for World Book Day, we would like everyone at Lasswade High School to stop for 20 minutes, just to read. WORLD BOOK DAY 3rd March 2016 Diorama Competition This year’s World Book Day competition is to design a diorama from a text (poem, novel, play...) of your choice. You don’t need to cover the whole text – an incident or scene is enough. Closing date is 1 st March to allow entries to be judged on 3rd March. Modern Apprenticeships in Admissions, Guiding and Retail Edinburgh Castle Historic Environment Scotland is offering 9 school leavers the opportunity to join the team at Edinburgh Castle on a two-year Modern Apprenticeship Fixed Term Contract; April 2016 to March 2018. Edinburgh Castle is Scotland’s most popular paid visitor attraction, welcoming around 1.5 million visitors annually. Modern Apprentices are required in the three areas in the castle, tasks will include: Admissions Provide a world class welcome and direct visitors as appropriate upon their arrival at Edinburgh Castle, sell appropriate tickets and products to all walk up visitors, and ensure all vehicles entering the castle and parking on the esplanade have the appropriate approval Guiding Welcome and assist visitors on their way around the castle, work on both indoor and outdoor posts throughout the castle, oversee the security, and cleanliness and tidiness of the various apartments throughout opening hours Retail Carry out the daily operational duties of the shop as requested by the supervisor or retail management, maximise trading income through selling and upselling appropriate merchandise, process sales, whilst ensuring that all financial procedures are adhered to and carried out accurately and efficiently, and ensure that high standards of shop hygiene and housekeeping are maintained at all times The Modern Apprentices will spend the first three months in all three areas taking part in a thorough and detailed induction of the castle, after which they will each be placed in one area where they will stay for the remainder of the contract unless stated otherwise. At this point, the Modern Apprenticeship qualification will commence. You will undertake a Diploma in Cultural Venue Operations (SCQF Level 6) delivered by Rewards Training. Ideally we are looking for National 5s including Maths and English, and/or Higher Grades. Apprentice Finance Assistant / Credit Controller The NWH Group is a Construction and Waste Services Company, with sites in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Dundee. An Apprenticeship Opportunity has arisen for a for a full time Junior Finance Assistant / Apprentice Credit Controller to work at our Head Office in Mayfield, Dalkeith. This position is open to 16-19 year olds, and is ideal for school leavers who would like to embark upon a career in Business Administration. The successful candidate will work closely alongside our Credit Control team, learning how to optimize the business cash flow, through collecting payments and building strong working relationships with customers. Alongside their Credit Control duties, the candidate will be responsible for general office duties, including filing, dealing with customer queries, assisting with mail distribution, and ad-hoc reception cover. We require a well presented, responsible individual with excellent customer service skills, PC skills and a professional telephone manner. The ability to work well as part of a team with great attention to detail is essential. This is a 2 year apprenticeship, where a permanent job will be offered upon successful completion of the course. Apprentice Floor Layer Advanced Floor Coverings Bonnyrigg We are currently looking for someone to fill the role of Apprentice Floor Layer. The successful candidate will learn many aspects of the flooring industry such as; sub floor preparation (screed/plywood), luxury vinyl tiles (Amtico, Karndean), carpet, vinyl, laminate/engineered and solid wood. The majority of training will be provided 'on-site', however, the chance to attend product based training courses will be available as well as working towards an NVQ level 2 in floor coverings. Applicants must be presentable, have strong communication abilities (verbal, written and listening skills) and confidence in dealing with customers on a face to face basis. They should be physically fit, healthy and enjoy manual work with the ability to learn and perform practical skills efficiently. National 4 Maths and English or equivalent is essential. A driving licence is required, however, if you are currently learning or eager to gain your driver’s licence this would also be sufficient. 40hrs per week with overtime incentives available / 28 days annual leave per year.
