Impact on Students 7 th and 8 th grade students enrolled in Algebra or Geometry Middle School students can earn HS math credit by passing Algebra and/or Geometry

What do parents need to do? Parents will choose to either EXCLUDE the course taken by their child on his/her high school transcript. Parents will choose to either INCLUDE the course taken by their child on his/her high school transcript.

Option 1: The course will not be included on your student’s high school transcript. Your student will still earn a grade for the course, but the course will not be included on his/her high school transcript. Your student’s grade in the course will not affect his/her high school GPA. Your student will still be required to complete all high school math graduation requirements for credit and end of course assessment. Your student’s math credit requirements become 3 credits at the next courses in the math sequence

Option 2: The course will be included on your student’s high school transcript. Your student’s grade for this course will appear on his/her official high school transcript. Your student’s grade will affect his/her high school cumulative GPA. The math credit earned counts toward HS credit requirements for math (3 credits, Algebra and higher) Once the grade has been added to your student’s transcript, it cannot be removed.

Additional Note If your student does not pass their current course, then he/she will be required to repeat the course in order to fulfill one of the mathematics requirements for graduation.

What’s Next Each family has received a document with student name and course. Please indicate either Option 1 or Option 2. Default: Option 1 will automatically be applied to all students who do not have an Op-In/Opt- Out form on file. Return the document to your school’s counselor either tonight or by Friday, January 22, 2016.
