Energy By: Brandon Mahler
2
7 “Forms” of Energy Thermal Energy (Heat) Radiant Energy (Light) Kinetic Energy (Motion) Electrical Chemical Nuclear Gravitational
3
2 “Types” of Energy Potential Energy (Stored) Kinetic Energy (Working)
4
Renewable vs. Nonrenewable Renewable energy can be replenished Solar Wind Geothermal Biomass from plants Nonrenewable energy cannot be replenished
5
Energy Consumption (Nonrenewable) 37% Petroleum 24% Natural Gas 23% Coal 9% Nuclear
6
Energy Consumption (Renewable) 7% of total Consumption 3% Biomass 2% Hydropower 1% Windpower.5% Geothermal.5% Solar
7
Energy Conservation any behavior that results in the use of less energy
8
Energy Efficiency use of technology that requires less energy to perform the same function
9
Recycling – More with less It almost always takes less energy to make a product from recycled materials than it does to make it from new materials. Using recycled aluminum scrap to make new aluminum cans, for example, uses 95% less energy than making aluminum cans from bauxite ore, the raw material used to make aluminum
