IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 2 Objectives The objectives of this module are to help you: –Understand how the Express Runtime Deployment Wizard is used to present a consistent interface for installations –Walk through a sample deployment
3
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 3 Deployment Wizard Overview Deployment Wizard –Provides a simple graphical user interface (GUI) to deploy a solution and minimize the amount of setup required –Presents a solution as a list of tasks and accomplishes them sequentially –You control how much of the configuration to expose to your customers –You control the content of this panel as well as the branding (titles, icons, about panel…) of the interface
4
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 4 Deployment Wizard Overview (contd) Select tasks to deploy Select target computers Configure deployment parameters Deploy tasks to target computers View deployment status Deployment logging options
5
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 5 Select tasks The deployment wizard provides a list of all the tasks that are part of the solution
6
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 6 Select Target System(s) Define one or more target computers for each task you select for deployment You can deploy a multi- machine solution in one pass from one set of CDs You can restrict a task to one machine or the entire solution to one machine
7
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 7 Provide configuration parameters Why do we need the configuration parameters? –To allow your customers to provide the customer specific information such as User Ids, passwords, install locations, and port numbers You can also expose parameters for your application Parameters can be required or optional with or without a default value
8
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 8 Sample configuration parameters screen For each application, the deployment wizard presents a screen to gather the configuration information for that application It’s up to you to decide what information to expose for your application
9
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 9 Summary Panel Provide summary information on Task with further description Outlines whether the deployment is local or remote Shows if the task was previously deployed Flexibility to deploy tasks individually or deploy all the tasks at once
10
IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 10 Deployment Status As deployment progresses, the status is updated on this panel There would be a status line for each task in the solution All of the installation logs are retrieved and can be viewed from this panel

IBM Express Runtime Quick Start Workshop © 2007 IBM Corporation 12 Express Runtime Doc Mgmt Sample Application The Document Management sample is a web application which runs on WebSphere Application Server and uses a DB2 database –The sample implements a simple web site which has controlled access based on a user name and password –The actions available to a user when logging into the web site vary depending on what roles the user has been assigned –The documents are not stored directly within the database, instead the information about each document is stored in the application database –The document files are stored on the web application server file system in a directory specified at deployment time This application has been integrated into a solution wrapper with WebSphere Application Server Express and DB2 Express For the lab, we will deploy this solution
