Preparation of the Body How do you gather information about your level of fitness. Fitness Assessment

How Do You Collect Data Performance related observation schedule Standardised fitness test.

Standardised fitness tests Multi stage fitness test & Illinois agility run Provides relevant, objective and accurate information on your fitness as you follow standardised test procedures Knowledge of Results- an observer records how you performed during the test. This is a permanent record which allows you to compare these results to future tests results and a table of norms. I received teacher feedback on how well I performed during the test. I also gathered information through kinaesthetic feedback. The test is completed out of context and gives you results solely on the aspect of fitness you are testing. Standardised tests are reliable, accurate and valid if you follow the protocol test procedure.

Multi Stage Fitness Test Shuttle runs between two cones that are 20 metres apart Progressively get harder, after every minute the time between the bleep gets gradually quicker Calculates your level of cardio respiratory endurance and can estimate your VO2 Max Key words – Performed out of context – Standardised test procedures – Compare to a table of norms – Observer records your score

Performance Related Observation Schedules Finds out how fitness affects technical performances throughout the game of basketball. The O.S has the skills of basketball across the top and the time of the game split into 5 minute sections down the side. An observer identifies if a skill is effective or not using a criteria sheet. During the observation I still got kinaesthetic feedback and teacher feedback. The observation sheet gives me my knowledge of results and is a permanent record that can be used to check for improvements. O.S establishes a relationship between fitness and performance. Same constants as all previous O.S- – In context, performance set, 5v5 games, observer has good eyesight and knowledge of the game, criteria sheet, 40 minute game on full court.

Time Minutes Passing Accuracy Dribbling Control Success Shooting Movement Attack Movement Defence Rebound Attack Rebound Defence 1 st Half 0-5 mins 6-10 mins 11-15 mins 16-20 mins 2 nd Half 0-5 min 6-10 mins 11-15 mins 16-20 mins

Why Collect Information About Your Fitness? By analysing the results from the standardised tests and the performance-related observation schedule it highlights your strengths and weaknesses. Then you can- Design a development programme and makes sure the work is at the correct level. Identify the aspects of fitness that need to be improved. Provide a benchmark to work from in order you can- – Set realistic targets and goals – Make training challenging but achievable – Be in a position to compare results before during and after the training

When Monitor and Re-test? Before the start of the development programme Starts the programme at the correct level Re-test every six weeks Are you meeting your targets? Is the training to hard or to easy? Allows for progressive overload At the very end of the programme Has the programme been successful? How much have you improved? Highlights your future development needs

Monitoring and Re-testing In order to be able to make a direct comparison all the constants must be the same every time you are re-testing. This also makes all the information Reliable, Accurate and Valid. Retest using - » Standardised tests » Performance Related Observation Schedule
