2. Servants– What jobs did they have to do? Where did they sleep and eat? Where did they wash?

3. Entertainment– What did they have for entertainment? How was it different to what we have today?

4. Toilets and Washing– They had toilets called Garderobes How were they different to what we have today? The people who cleaned the Garderobes were called Gong Farmers – do you think they enjoyed their jobs? Why?

5. Grand Hall– The Kings and Queens used to eat in the Grand Hall. What kind of food would they eat? Who would entertain them? Were servants allowed to eat there too?

6. What is different? What are the differences between life in a castle to what life is like today?

7. Moat What is a Moat? What was is used for? How could people cross the moat?

8. Drawbridge What is a Drawbridge? How does it stop enemies from coming into the castle? Where would the drawbridge be?

9. Towers What were towers used for? Why does the tower have battlements? What were the towers made from?

10. Keep What is a Keep? Who lives there? How is the Keep protected from enemies?

11. Curtain Wall What is a curtain wall? What is it made from? Why is it made from that material? Why does it have an important job?

12. Gatehouse What is a gatehouse? Where would you find it? Why is it an important part of the castle?

13. Catapult What does a catapult do? How could it be used to attack a castle? What did they use to put in the catapult?

14. Battering Ram What does a battering ram do? What is it made from? How does it work?

15. Siege Tower How is this used to attack a castle? What is it made from?

16. Archers They used Longbows and Crossbows. How is this effective at attacking a castle?

17. Mining under the Castle The attackers sometimes mined under the castle walls. Why would this be a good way of attacking a castle?

18. Under Attack! How many different ways of attacking a castle can you see? Which do you think is most effective?

19. Cook What jobs would the cook have to do? Would they have had a microwave and a fridge? Why?

26. Moat Why is there a moat around the castle? How could you go across the moat into the castle?

27. Towers and Battlements Why does Leeds Castle have towers? What would the soldiers use the battlements for?

28. Portcullis Leeds Castle has a portcullis. What important job does the portcullis do? What is it made from?

29. Arrow Slit Leeds Castle has arrow slits. What were they used for? Why were they so thin?

30. Bridge This used to be a wooden draw bridge. What would the draw bridge have been used for?
