Welcome to Piano Lab

Student Expectations To practice the assigned materials on a daily basis. Playing and practicing are two different concepts. To perform theory and ear-training exercises. To understand written music as well as what is heard. To publicly perform memorized piano selections and duets. To understand the historical context of the music. To improvise from a given chord progression or from a given melody.

Course Description Students will learn how to read music and play the keyboard and piano. Advanced Students will increase their ability to play the piano through improved technique, new literature, and new theoretical concepts.

Music Alfred’s Basic Adult Piano Course, Levels I, II, III by Palmer, Manus and Lethco Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary Music Holiday music/duets

Grading Policy Piano Selections Daily Improvement Progress Written theory tests Class recitals Final exam – The recital will consist of a memorized solo which will count 25% of the semester grade. The required final exam recital is Monday, December 12, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.
