Italy

Italians are very stylish. They are obsessed with fashion and accessories. Name brands and designer clothing are extremely important.

Traditionally, brides used to wear green on their wedding day, which symbolizes fertility. Modern brides choose to wear green for the rehearsal dinner and a white gown on their wedding day. It is considered bad luck to wear any gold, until the wedding rings are exchanged in church. Italian brides are to wear a veil over their faces to hide from jealous spirits. The veil should also be for good luck. As an accessory, the bride should carry a small satin bag around her wrist. The bag, called "La Borsa," is where guests place envelopes of money to help pay for the wedding at the reception.

The Groom wears a suit. Tradition dictates that he carry a piece of iron on his wedding day in his pocket. This is to ward off evil spirits and any bad feelings, such as envy, from others.

Until the early 1970s, many high schools required girls to wear black grembiule on top of their clothes: no uniform was required for boys. Nowadays, many pre- schools advise parents to dress their children with a grembiulino. Some elementary schools advise some kind of grembiule for the younger students. Sometimes girls are required to wear a pink or white grembiulino, while boys may be required to wear a short cotton jacket, usually blue or black. Some parents send their children to school in a grembiule even if the school does not require it.
