2  Algonquin tribes lived in small, one-family homes called wigwams  They could be a dome, cone, or rectangular shape

3  The Iroquois lived in a longhouse that included up to 12 families inside.  The longhouse was 50 to 100 feet long.  It included several rooms separated by animal skins.

4  The Iroquois villages had their own form of protection.  The longhouses were surrounded by a wooden fence called a palisade

5  The Native Americans had no money. They would trade instead  They often used wampum, strings of shell beads for trading.  European settler wanted furs, and would give the tribes their superior weapons
