Its your friends birthday and you are going to make them some cookies. Step 1. How are you going to begin this process? Step 2. Plan Step 3. It’s time to cook. Step 4. You give your friend the present. You have broken down the tasks into process groups.

Lets bake cookies…..mmmm You have divided the project into Process Groups Establish the need Initiated the process Planning Executing Monitoring & Controlling Closing

Process Groups These groups are organised by the kind of work you are doing.

Knowledge areas Help you arrange tasks according to the subject matter you are dealing with

Knowledge areas Scope Cost Human Resources Risk Procurement Communications Quality Time & Integration

The cookie project can be organized in either way. By process groups where the focus is on the stages or flow of the work OR By knowledge areas where you focus on the facts or detail of the task.

The two different ways Process groups and knowledge areas do not really overlap each other! Don’t get confused and caught up in trying to make them fit together.
