2 A Fragment A fragment is an incomplete sentence. It is a phrase, or a bullet point, trying to act like a sentence. It is an IMPOSTER! Fragments do not have subjects. You need a subject to create a complete sentence.

3 Fragment Examples: Sitting in my seat. WHO was sitting in my seat? Ms. Jennings was sitting in my seat. Walking down the street. WHO was walking down the street? He was walking down the street. Waiting to see my mother. Instead say, “I am waiting to see me mother.”

4 Fragment Examples in Paragraphs When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. And fly to the moon. Ride in a space shuttle. I want to be a famous scientist through this experience. Mix chemicals, find moon rocks. When I grow up, I want to be an astronaut. I want to fly to the moon and ride in a space shuttle. I want to be a famous scientist through this experience. 5 #1) Identify the fragments in the sentence (3). (#2) Change them into a complete sentences. Coach Carter wanted to improve his players’ high school experience. He challenged them academically. Made them practice. Sign a contract. The players had to work hard in order to qualify for college. To change their academic standings. 7 Compose a paragraph: Change these fragments into sentences and create a paragraph. To be a fantastic athlete. To work hard. Practice after school. Run in the heat. You can also correct these with a comma: To be a fantastic athlete, I need to do the following: work hard, practice after school, and run in the heat.
