2 2 Purpose Communication for car to car, and car to infrastructure. The purpose is to increase traffic safety by exchanging traffic related information. The system could assist at: Intersections Hazardous road conditions Road maintenance Traffic congestion

3 3 The system The system will be highly based on distributed computing and a high exchange of relations between the different participants in the system.

4 4 The system When a vehicle is in the system it is obliged to notify vehicles in the surrounding area of its location and about relevant traffic information. At the same time it retrieves the location and traffic information of vehicles in the surrounding area.

5 5 R1: A computer based distributed system for swift data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure. R2: Vehicle and infrastructure will exchange information when they get close to each other. In range will be defined to 100 m. R3: The participants will exchange information about their position, speed and direction. R4: The travel direction will be limited to North-South and East-West, and the opposite direction. R5: The position is based on an x,y coodinate system, and will not take the spherical surface of earth into account. R6: Furthermore the participants will exchange traffic related information. In this project the information is limited to –Slippery roads –Traffic congestion –Indicator signal R7: The participants will keep records of the information for the last five cars traveling in the opposite direction within 5 minute window. This information will be transferred to any vehicles traveling in the opposite direction of the participant itself. R8: The system will be used as an intersection assistant with the detection of possible left-turn accidents, R9: The system will indicate red lights in the relevant direction. R10: The system must be able to detect traffic congestion. A definition of congestion needs to be defined. R11: The actual communication specifics and the security issues is not part of this project.
