2
Reproduction a process whereby living things produce more living things All living organisms need to do it!!
3
Asexual Reproduction Just one parent involved Offspring identical-no diversity Many microscopic organisms reproduce in this way
4
5 types of asexual reproduction 1) Binary Fission 2) Spore Formation 3) Budding 4) Vegetative propogation 5) Regeneration
5
Binary fission *is the normal method of reproduction among bacteria. *It means splitting into 2 EQUAL new organisms.
6
Spore Formation Forming of spores that passes on genetic information Some Plants and fungi do this Molds also reproduce this way
7
Budding A miniature version of an organism grows off of the adult organism and eventually falls off and is genetically identical to the parent There is an unequal distribution of cytoplasm Hydra’s do this yeast
8
Vegetative propagation When part of a plant is cut off and new roots form. The new plant is genetically identical
9
Regeneration When a piece of an organism can grow into a new whole organisms Starfish or sea stars do this
