1 Learning Styles & Types of Intelligence College and Career

2 Three main types of Learning Styles: Visual – prefer to learn by seeing Auditory – prefer to learn by hearing Kinesthetic – prefer to learn by doing, as in hands-on activities

3 Knowing your LS Can be a valuable asset. Helps your prepare strategies that work for you. Study “smarter” not harder.

4 Visual Learners Prefer to see what they are learning Tend to picture things in their mind Lots of school activities are visual…for example: Reading from the board Videos, demonstrations, etc.

5 Visual Learners Take notes and sometimes use color or markers Usually neat and organized Look for something to watch when bored Like quiet classrooms Like to see first, and do second Enjoy written language with lots of imagery Learn through charts & diagrams

6 Auditory Students learn best by listening Some move their lips or read aloud Hearing the words spoken helps them remember

7 Auditory Learners Prefer lectures to watching videos Prefer being told what to do rather than shown Enjoy listening to music when studying Use rhythm as a tool for memorizing Are good at repeating exactly what the speaker is saying

8 Kinesthetic Learn through hands on and movement Need to be involved in activity Sometimes tap their fingers or move their feet Enjoy classes with experiments or other movements

9 Kinesthetic (tactile) Learners Speak with their hands & use gestures Enjoy activities that involve moving Lose concentration when there is no external stimulation Need to stretch and move around Like to try things first and learn from mistakes (Note – the word “tactile” refers to a sense of touch.)

Sign up for classes that fit your natural aptitudes. 3. Recognize your intelligence and stay motivated – believe in your abilities.
