Calvin Cycle (Light-independent rxns) Synthesis part of photosynthesis Occurs in stroma Uses CO 2 from atmosphere, and ATP and NADPH produced in L-D rxns, to make simple sugars

Calvin Cycle Six CO 2 needed to produce one six-C sugar 1. Carbon fixation: CO 2 added to RuBP (five-C sugar already in cycle) to make six-C sugar 2. Six-C sugar splits into three-C sugars 3. Energy from ATP & NADPH used to convert three-C sugars to GP3, three-C sugars with higher energy bonds 4. One G3P leaves. Can bond another three-C sugar to create six-C sugar such as glucose. 5. Three-C sugars still in cycle converted into RuBP using energy from ATP. Cycle repeats.
