4 Transvers Wave: In a transverse wave, matter in the medium moves back and forth at right angles to the direction that the wave travels. Compressional Wave: In a compressional wave, matter in the medium moves back and forth along the same direction that the wave travels. Is also know as a longitudinal wave. 6  Amplitude: The height of the wave, measured in meters.  Wave Length: The distance between adjacent crests, measured in meters.  Period: The time it takes for one complete wave to pass a given point, measured in seconds.  Frequency: The number of complete waves that pass a point in one second, measured in inverse second, or hertz (Hz)  Speed: The Horizontal speed of a point one wave as it propagates, measured in meters/second (m/s). 9 The classical method of describing interference includes presentations that depict the graphical recombination of two or more sinusoidal light waves in a plot of amplitude, wavelength, and relative phase displacement. In effect, when two waves are added together, the resulting wave has an amplitude value that is either increased through constructive interference, or diminished through destructive interference.
