1 VERBS Directions- Write the following in the Writing Notes Section of your spiral notebook Verbs bring life to your writing. Verbs describe actions that can be seen and those that can not be seen.

2 ACTION Verbs Verbs such as walk, sailed, played, migrate, raced, crossed, learn, and arrive all show some kind of action

3 Grammar Practice Verbs Directions-Underline the verb in each sentence. 1. The cook washed the vegetables before he cooked them. 2. The soup boiled in the pot. 3. He finished the race quickly. 4. David played with his little brother at the park. 5. The plane landed abruptly! 6. I remembered the poem from last year. 7. The car hit the bump in the parking lot.

4 Transitive Verbs An action verb can be transitive if the receiver of the action is named in the sentence. The receiver of the action is called the object of the verb. Intransitive Verbs An action verb is intransitive if there is no receiver of the action named. Intransitive verbs do not have an object.
