5. An action is transitive if the receiver of the action is named in the sentence. The receiver of the action is called the object of the verb

7. An action verb is intransitive if there is no receiver of the action named in the sentence. An intransitive verb does not have an object Examples The conference call began My doorbell rang at midnight

8. Some action verbs can be transitive or intransitive. You need to determine if the verb has an object or not. Examples Transitive verb: will flew his small plan Intransitive verb : the small plane flew over the bridge
