Transitive Verb A transitive verb is a verb that NEEDS a direct object. Ex: The shelf holds three books and a vase of flowers.

Intransitive Verbs Intransitive verbs are verbs that DON’T need a direct object. Ex: Juanita immigrated to the United States.

Example 1 Juanita had emigrated from Mexico.

Example 2 The lawyer prosecuted 3 murderers and 2 thiefs.
