Piety & Combativeness (two important characteristics of the Middle Ages) What types of actions might these characteristics lead to? Piety – build churches, attempt to convert people to Christianity, go on religious crusades. Combativeness – undertake war, attempt to win land.

What is a “Crusade”? Dictionary? “A vigorous concerted movement against an abuse or for a cause.” “A remedial enterprise undertaken with zeal and enthusiasm.” What are “The CrusadeS”? “Expeditions undertaken by European Christians in the Middle Ages to regain the Holy Land.”
