3 Introduction Ushering is a ministry. Be prepared to handle both the routine and the unusual. Show kindness towards others. Love God and willing to be a servant. Make sure the service goes smoothly. Ushers are doorkeepers and guards. Page 2 of 11 Back Home Next

4 Basic Information One Head Usher and three other ushers assigned to each Sunday morning service. Only a Head Usher is scheduled for the Wednesday service. Usher Coordinator Head Usher Page 3 of 11 Back Home Next

5 Usher Coordinator Oversees the ministry. Produces the usher schedule quarterly. Weekly, reminds the Head Ushers of their assignments. Other duties as assigned. Page 4 of 11 Back Home Next

6 Head Usher In charge during the service. Assigned to the post near the inside doors. Arrives 30 minutes before each service. Sets the thermostats for the heating and air conditioning. Turns on the lights. Makes sure the supplies are in place for the service. Page 5 of 11 Back Home Next

7 Head Usher Clears the sidewalks of snow, ice and leaves. Assigns posts to the other ushers. Makes sure the sanctuary is prepared for the next service. Takes attendance in the entire building. Passes out the bulletins until the ushers arrive. Page 6 of 11 Back Home Next

8 Head Usher Welcomes everyone by name, especially visitors. Gives directions (i.e. Rest Room, Nursery, etc.) Stops the flow of traffic during prayer. Other duties as assigned. Page 7 of 11 Back Home Next

9 Usher Responds to the requests and directions of the Head Usher. Assigned to a seat on the back row of one of the three seating sections. Arrives 15 minutes before each service. Makes sure his assigned section is prepared for the next service. Page 8 of 11 Back Home Next

10 Usher Takes a “head-count” attendance in his section. Passes out and collects the attendance books. Collects the offering. Passes out the bulletins. Welcomes everyone by name, especially visitors. Page 9 of 11 Back Home Next

11 Usher Assists the Head Usher with disturbances. Gives directions (i.e. Rest Room, Nursery, etc.) Other duties as assigned. Page 10 of 11 Back Home Next

12 Dress Code Does not apply to Wednesday. You only get one chance to make a good impression. Wear a tie and jacket or its equivalency. Tennis shoes, jeans, and polo shirts are not acceptable. Tie, dress shirts, suit jacket and dress shoes are acceptable. Page 11 of 11 Back Home Next
