2 Animal Farm Summary Setting: Farm in England.
Farm is taken over by the animals. Pigs create “commandments” for all the animals to live by. Humans attack farm and animals defend and win. Snowball (pig/leader) was kicked out of farm by Napoleon (pig/leader) for wanting to better the farm. The “commandments” start to change, to benefit the pigs. Windmill that was destroyed was rebuilt and food was rationed to a minimum. Boxer (work horse) collapses from hard work and is then taken to be slaughtered. Pigs start to become more human like and have total control and the animals can not distinguish between human and pig.

15 Socialism and Communism
Social Issue Socialism and Communism

16 Socialism Refers to the economic system, everyone works and everyone gets the same amount or get what they work for. Little private property. Economy is run by larger business rather than smaller business. There are different levels of socialism.

17 Socialism Karl Marx- Came up with the idea/philosophy of Socialism and what it was. “According to Marx, the supreme end of man is an immanent and material one, and consists in happiness” and also that “reality is governed by economic needs” Lenin- First to actually use socialism. -

18 Communism Refers to the economic and political system.
People are given only what they need, there isn’t really any gain. No private land ownership. Controlled by a small group of people. Classless society.

19 Communism Karl Marx- Wrote the book Communist Manifesto, but communism goes back to the roman times.
