PRESENT PERFECT It talks about an action completed at an indefinite time in the past but still has importance in the present : He has read the novel, so he knows the ending. He has read the novel, so he knows the ending. It is often used to tell how many times someone has done an action: I have read the novel two times so far. PRESENT PERFECT PROGRESSIVE It talks about an action started in the past, still happening now and will continue into the future: He has been reading the novel, but he hasn’t finished yet. He has been reading the novel, but he hasn’t finished yet. It often stresses how long someone has been doing an action: I have been reading the novel for over a week now.
