GENERAL OVERVIEW HB 5 changed the graduation programs from MHSP, RHSP, and DAP to the Foundation Program – SBOE adopted January 31, 2014. This became effective with the 2014-2015 freshmen but students enrolled in high school prior to 2014-2015 have the option of transitioning to this graduation program.

FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM WITH ENDORSEMENT(S) ELIGIBLE FOR GENERAL ADMISSION TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION Foundation CurriculumEnrichment Curriculum English Language Arts (4 credits) English I English II English III Advanced English Course Physical Education ( 1 credit) One credit Mathematics (4 credits) Algebra I Geometry Algebra 2 Advanced Math Course Languages Other Than English (2 Credits) Two levels in the same language Science (4 credits) Biology IPC or Advanced Science Course 2 Advanced Science Courses Fine Arts( 1 Credit) One credit Social Studies (3 credits) U.S. History U.S. Government (1/2 credit) Economics (1/2 credit) World Geography or World History Electives Seven credits-Four of the seven must be in same endorsement area. A student must successfully complete the curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement, obtain 4 credits in science and 4 credits in mathematics (including Algebra II). ***Most colleges require this for automatic enrollment ******

A student may earn a performance acknowledgement on their diploma and transcript for outstanding performance on any of the following: Completing at least 12 hours of college academic courses including those taken for dual credit and/or advanced placement with a grade of 80% or higher, In bilingualism and bi-literacy, Earning a score of 4 or 5 on a College Board advanced placement exam, Earning a score on the PSAT test that qualifies them for recognition as a commended scholar or higher by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation, Achieving college readiness benchmark score on at least two of the four subject test on the ACT-PLAN examination, Earning a combined critical reading and mathematics score of at least 1250 on the SAT, Earning a composite score of 28 on the ACT examination, Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license.

WHAT ARE ENDORSEMENTS? To graduate with an endorsement a student must earn at least 26 total credits. A “high school endorsement” is similar to a “major in college”. An “endorsement” is a coherent sequence of at least (4) courses that are earned in addition to the foundation graduation requirements. The State of Texas TEA has five endorsements that a student may earn. STEM, Business & Industry, Arts & Humanities, Public Services and Multidisciplinary Comfort High School will offer all 5 endorsements!

Arts & Humanities Endorsement To receive an Arts and Humanities Endorsement students must complete courses in addition to their core courses in either: Social Studies, Foreign Language or Fine Arts.

ARTS & HUMANITIES ENDORSEMENT AREAS: Social Studies: students must complete four courses from the following list: World Geography, World History, US History, Government and Economics. Foreign Language: a student must complete 4 levels of the same foreign language or two levels in two different foreign languages. The foreign languages students may choose from are: Spanish or American Sign Language. Fine Arts: a student must complete 4 courses in a coherent sequence from one of the following Fine Arts area: Theatre Arts or Band.

Business and Industry: To receive a Business and Industry Endorsement students must complete four courses in a coherent sequence in addition to their core courses. Students may choose from several pathways: Agriculture with an emphasis in Plants, animals, metal technology and mechanics, Construction, or Audio Video or Fashion Design.

BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY AREAS OF STUDY Ag Animal: Principles of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Livestock Production, Small Animal/Equine Science, Veterinary Medical Applications and Advanced Animal Science. Ag Mechanics and metal technology: Principles of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Ag Mechanics & Metal Technology, Ag Power System, & Ag Facilities Design & Fabrication.

BUSINESS & INDUSTRY AREAS OF STUDY Construction: Principles of Architecture and Construction, Mill and Cabinet Making, Construction Management, Advanced Construction Management or Advanced Construction Technology, Practicum in Construction Management 1 Audio Video: Principles of Audio Video Production, Audio Video Production, Advanced Audio Video Production, Practicum in Audio Video Production. Fashion Design: Principles of Audio Video Production, Audio Video Production, Fashion Design and Advanced Fashion Design.

To receive a Public Services Endorsement students must complete four courses in a coherent sequence in addition to their core courses. Students may choose from several pathways: Health Science, Hospitality & Tourism, or Human Services. PUBLIC SERVICES ENDORSEMENT

PUBLIC SERVICES AREAS OF STUDY: Health Science: Principles of Health Science, Medical Terminology, Health Science, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Practicum in Health Science 1, Practicum in Health Science 2. Hospitality and Tourism: Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, Travel and Tourism Management, Culinary Arts, Practicum in Culinary Arts or Career Prep. Human Services: Principles of Human Services, Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness, Child Development, Child Guidance, Human Growth & Development or Career Prep.

STEM To receive a STEM Endorsement students must complete either: 3 math courses including Algebra II and two additional advanced math courses or four science courses including Biology, Chemistry & Physics and one additional advanced science course.

Multidisciplinary Endorsement: To receive a Multidisciplinary Endorsement students must complete either: 4 advanced courses or 4 credits, one from each of the four core course areas or 4 Advanced Placement or Dual Credit Courses.

Complete a career Survey, Select an endorsement, Choose your classes on course choice sheet, Turn in Endorsement selection sheet and Course Choice Sheet to 8 th grade counselor, Check Website for summer work for honors courses.
