S.S. Fair Outline Outline Must be typed. The topic and thesis (or main question to answer) must be at the beginning. Must include at least five paragraphs Must start with an introduction and the last section must be the conclusion.

Making an Outline 1. Identify the thesis. 2. Identify the main categories these will become the topics of each paragraph 3. Identify evidence supporting evidence of facts to explain the main categories or topic sentences Outlines can be flexible but should be followed when writing your paper

Outline Example Question: Should Alexander the Great be considered a hero or a villain?’ I. Introduction a.Thesis: While many consider Alexander the Great to be a villain, his brilliant military tactics, his establishment of Alexandria, and creation of Hellenistic culture are all accomplishments not of a villain but of a hero. Note taking Stage In this stage, you will be using your sources to gather information on your topic. We will record the information onto note cards which will help keep you organized. Pre-AP will need 50 note cards.

Note card Requirements The correct # of note cards are turned in Pre-AP: 50 Note cards have correct format Information is quotation or paraphrased Information is accurate and relevant

Note-taking Tips Direct quotation – repeats the words of a source exactly and has quotation marks Paraphrase – states an idea expressed in a source, but not in the same words Summary – condenses an idea expressed in a source, so it says the same thing in fewer and different words
