1 Aim: How do differences in personality lead to conflict in Chapter 4 of The Pigman? Do Now: Try to remember a conflict you have had with someone. What was the reason for the conflict? Was the conflict ever resolved? If so, how? Would you resolve it differently if you could replay the event? EXPLAIN!!!!

2 What is Conflict? O Conflicts are the problems or struggles that move our novels forward. O the struggle between opposing forces or a problem that a character faces in a piece of literature. O Conflict can be divided into two different categories: internal and external

3 Internal Conflict O Internal conflict is the kind of conflict that occurs inside of us. O Notice that Internal begins with the prefix "in." That should help you to remember that it occurs inside.

4 External Conflict O External conflict occurs outside of us. O One of the meanings of the prefix "ex" is outside, like "exit," which should help you to remember.
