4
Introduction We use math everyday in the real world…but how? What careers that I am interested in use the kind of math I am learning now? How is this geometry class going to be useful to me later in life?
5
Career Ideas But how about these? Disney Imagineer Graphic Artist Food Scientist Movie Director Video Game Designer Sports Agent You might have already thought about these: Physician Scientist Veterinarian Dentist Engineer Computer Technician Architect
6
Project Description 1. Think about any type of career that interests you. 2.Investigate at least one type of math you will need for that career. 3. Research websites that help teach a concept of math that is needed for that career. 4.Pick up a Geometer’s Sketchpad assignment related to the math you found. 5.Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to share with the class that describes your findings. 6.Present your Sketchpad assignment to the class.
7
How to prepare your PowerPoint You may prepare your PowerPoint in the school lab or at home. Email it as an attachment to cmaselli@beniciaunified.org cmaselli@beniciaunified.org I will review your presentation, make suggestions and send it back to you to make revisions if necessary. Email your final work to me, or save it on a flash drive and bring it to class.

What to include in your PowerPoint The career you have chosen Why you are interested in this career What type of mathematical concepts you have found related to this career How this math is used in that specific career Make a link for any websites you have found regarding this career Make a link for any math websites you have found to help explore further at least one of the mathematical concepts needed for the career
9
Make a movie instead of a PowerPoint… Interview someone that works in a career that interests you…get some examples of how they use math. Put it on video or give a demo.. Make sure you still give us some math sites to help us learn….

Timeline Week One Monday and Tuesday: Choose a career and find a math topic related to it. Use the poster and/or the internet for research. Wednesday: Pick up your Sketchpad assignment for your math topic Thursday: Work on sketchpad Friday: Have Sketchpad assignment checked for correctness. Make any necessary revisions. Begin working on PowerPoint.

Week 2 Monday : Show PowerPoint to me in lab for review and corrections, or email it to me. Tuesday: Work on revisions Wednesday: Begin presentations. I will take volunteers first. Thursday-Friday: Presentations
