Problem: School Shootings Solution: Ban all white males from attending school, working at a school or living within a mile of a school. What is the problem with this solution? Discuss with your group

Problem: Mass killings and terrorist attacks Solution: Ban all people that prescribe to the Muslim/Islamic faith from entering America. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THIS SOLUTION!? This solution is not even actually supported by statistics Terrorist Attacks on American Soil by Groups (1980 – 2005) FBI Database FBI & US code of federal regulations defines terrorism as unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civil population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives.

People are proposing this as a solution!!! Banning/restricting immigration of Muslims is actually being discussed! “Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.” - Trump “The Quran is very interesting. A lot of people say it teaches love… But there's something there that teaches some very negative vibe… Now I don't know if that's from the Quran. I don't know if that's from someplace else. But there's tremendous hatred out there that I've never seen anything like it.” - Trump lack of understanding  Fear  Hate America has made serious mistakes in its past when it has been afraid

History is repeating itself!!! ■Chinese Exclusion Act (1882-1943)= Restricted immigration from China ■Immigration act of 1924 = Restrictions on Japanese and Asian immigration into America ■Japanese Interment = Japanese American citizens were sent to concentration/internment camps after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 (Prompted America’s entry into World War II) The anti Muslim sentiments (attitudes) in our country are eerily similar to anti Japanese sentiments of the 1940s

Overgeneralization and bigotry also lead to the Holocaust  Mass genocide of Jewish peoples in Europe ■The Nazis (Lead by Adolf Hitler) falsely considered the Jews to be a race. They incorrectly believed Jews had a natural impulse to strive for world domination, and that this goal would not only prevent German dominance but would also enslave and destroy the German “race.” ■Many Jewish peoples in Germany were very successful in business while the general population was suffering greatly from an economic recession caused by WW1… adding to this world domination fear. ■Overgeneralizations were made about Jewish people and their business practices, also negative overgeneralizations were made about the Jewish religion. ■This lead to the internment and ultimately the genocide of over 6 million Jews in Europe.

George Takei Says Donald Trump's Anti-Muslim Proposal Is A Disgrace https://youtu.be/cHJVJ2WCxCA

Yes, Trump is extreme; however, many American see this as a legitimate solution…. This is worrisome. These may not seem like high %... However, it is a ridiculous solution, and is thus frightening that any portion of the population supports it.

The Issue of Overgeneralization: “ if some, therefore all” All Dalmatians are dogs, therefore all dogs are Dalmatians. WRONG 78.6 million Americans are obese (1/3 of the population) therefore all Americans are obese. WRONG Nearly all school shooting have been done by white men, therefore all white men will shoot up a school. WRONG Majority of rapes are conducted by men, therefore all men are rapists. WRONG All members of ISIS are Muslim therefore, all Muslims are terrorist ISIS members. WRONG FLAWED LOGIC!!!! INCORRECT!

Reza Aslan Slams Bill Maher for Facile Arguments’ About Muslim Violence https://youtu.be/ PzusSqcotDw Overgeneralization: There is violence in some majority Muslim countries, therefore all majority Muslim countries are violent (WRONG), therefore Muslims are violent (WRONG)

ISIS DOES NOT equal Muslims/Islamic people in general ■ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) ■Other names for this group: ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Lavant) OR Daesh ISIS is an extremist group and it is dangerous, ignorant, irresponsible and frankly bigoted (racist) to say that they are the same Jihad = “struggle or striving” “struggle against non believers” NOT A VIOLENT CONCEPT But some groups (such as ISIS) do interpret it as violent, but NOT ALL MUSLIMS

“Islam does not promote peace or violence. Islam is just a religion and like every religion in the world it is what your bring to it.” - Reza Aslan

“Warfare in the name of God IS NOT unique to Islam. Other faiths throughout the world have waged war with religious justification.” – Islamic Supreme council of America Violence in the name of religion: The Crusades were a series of holy wars waged against non-Christians in an attempt to convert the middle east (and ultimately the world) to Christianity. The State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), the military regime of Burma from 1988 to 2011, had strongly encouraged the conversion of ethnic minorities, often by force, as part of its campaign of assimilation. The regimen promoted a vision of Burmese Buddhist nationalism as a cultural and a political ideology to legitimize its contested rule.

The Army of God ■Paul Jennings Hill: Ordained Christian minister, but was excommunicated by the Church when he became an member of the “Army of God” and untimely murdered an abortion doctor in 1994. A Christian terrorist group that focuses on abortion. They support the use of violence to fight against abortion… They kill to prevent killing… that makes sense Many Christians believe in the teaching of Jesus and the promotion of peace and love and are HORRIFIED by the actions of this terrorist group. This group does not represent Christians! Much like how most Muslims are horrified by the actions and beliefs of ISIS

Extremism: ■People of a political or religious group that act outside of the accepted norms of that group and society. ■They interpret that religion or political view in an extreme way, often to promote a radical perspective. ■Often rejected by others that follow the political or religious belief system. These are extremist groups They DO NOT represent the majority
