Greenhouse Management
2
List the different types of heating systems used in a greenhouse. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each type of heating system. Define terms associated with greenhouse heating systems.
3
Forced-air heaters Infrared radiant heaters Hot water heat Steam heat Greenhouse effect Solar energy
4
Too much in the summer, not enough in the winter. Greenhouse effect- the way in which a greenhouse collects and stores heat from the sun. Radiant energy warms up the plants, soil, and other objects.
5
Why is type of fuel important? Cost of energy Wood Electricity Coal Gas
6
Hot water heating system Water is heated in a boiler and pumped through pipes Effective when there is a number of small compartments to be heated to different temperatures 2 different types: gravity flow return system & motorized accelerated systems Steam heating system Water heated to a boil and steam runs through the pipes Closed circuit system
7
Hot air furnaces Centrally located with air deflectors Infrared radiant heating system Gas-fired burners heat air that is distributed through pipes to the plants Forced-air heaters Localized heater units that force hot air directly into a duct system Uses combination of electricity and propane
8
List the different types of heating systems used in a greenhouse. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each type of heating system. Define terms associated with greenhouse heating systems.
9
What is the greenhouse effect? What types of heating systems are used in glass greenhouses? What are the types of heating systems used in plastic greenhouses?
