2 His Philosophy

3 He calls himself a “ DESIGNER-CITIZEN ”
Philosophy “ ART IS WORK. ” He does all his work by hand-drawing everything. Minimal use of computers. “ JUST ENOUGH IS MORE. ” Rejected Modernist minimalism “less is more”, which was the popular “look” for graphic design by mid 20th century Instead, refashioned it to “just enough is more”. He calls himself a “ DESIGNER-CITIZEN ” using design to inform people to work towards a better future. He believes all designers has a social responsibility to the world to be truthful and to inform the public.

Purpose: To call attention to “one of the great humanitarian crises of our time.” To evoke empathy - “If you can convince somebody that “they’re like me,” then you can convince someone to buy in to something.”

8 Iconic Style “I Love New York” (1977)
Glaser created this logo to promote tourism, with its design influenced by Pop Art style. As a result, he created a new style of graphic communication that combines visual and intellectual concepts.

10 Timeline 1954 - co-founded the revolutionary Pushpin Studios
founded New York Magazine with Clay Felker established Milton Glaser, Inc. teamed with Walter Bernard to form the publication design firm WBMG. Among the most celebrated graphic designers in the U.S. Icon of American graphic design during latter half of 20th century

11 Push Pin Studios (1954) Founded with Seymour Chwast, Reynold Ruffins & Edward Sorel, which made phenomenal impacts on visual culture (1950s to 1980s)

12 New York Magazine (1968) “The Underground Gourmet” famous section in the magazine about cheap eats in New York. Founded with Clay Felker, Milton was president and design director until 1977 – became the model for city magazines.

13 WMBG (1983) A studio dedicated to magazine and newspaper design
Founded by Milton Glaser and Walter Bernard in 1983 Has designed for more than 50 magazines

14 Milton Inc. (1974) still producing work in a wide range of design disciplines Current client: The Brooklyn Brewery, Jet Blue, Target, Coach and etc.
