Tulip Festival This year I went to Pella with my friends, Dick and Ann Lee, on Sunday, May 15, 2008. We went on Sunday to miss the huge crowds. The tulips were absolutely beautiful. The colors were vibrant and so varied. The weather cooperated by being perfect; sunny and warm. We wandered all around the town square looking and photographing the tulip beds. Every year, after blooming, the tulips are replaced with new ones from Holland. This sculpture is a sun dial with pink tulips and blue hyacinths at the edge of the circular planter. The location of this picture was the town square.

This is a bed of red tulips with a yellow accent inside the bottom. Each one of the tulips were at the peak of their bloom, open just the right amount for the sun to shine in and enhance the color.

Windmill The windmill is a new addition to the town square. The structure was used as a mill to grind grain to use for breads. All the farmers brought their grain

Fenced In This bed was a riot of colors and liveliness, shining in the sun and waving with the gentle breezes. The black wrought iron fence contains the tulips and presents them in a kaleidoscope image.
